About The Youth Commission

The SDC Youth Commission is probably one of the most active commission in the Southern District. Their mission and mandate is to see young people experience a genuine faith in Jesus Christ through resourcing local church youth programs with summer camp experiences, annual high school and junior high youth conventions, and other events. The annual SDYC, Southern District Youth Conference, is one of the largest multi-church gatherings of any Mennonite Brethren group in the United States, bringing together over 500 youth and sponsors for inspiration and faith development. Russ Claassen serves as the District Youth Minister (DYM) and offices out of Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church where he also serves as youth pastor. Russ’ task as DYM is to coordinate the ministries of Youth Commission and help network and build relationships among the district youth pastors and leaders.
